About the Burj Khalifa

Rising head and shoulders above Dubai’s crowded skyline is the tapering tower of Burj Khalifa. To follow your curiosity and ascend the world’s tallest building, look no further than At the Top, a must-visit attraction in the emirate. As you whizz to the observation decks in high-speed lifts, prepare for your jaw to drop as you soak in the 360˚ views of the city and beyond.

Standing at a height of 828 metres – almost double that of the Empire State Building – the Burj Khalifa is an architectural behemoth designed to impress with its sheer size and grandeur. It was completed in 2010 after six years of construction, and the unusual shape is designed to reduce the impact of the wind. The Burj Khalifa is named after the leader of Abu Dhabi, one of Dubai’s neighbouring emirates. Its status as the world’s tallest building makes it a symbol of Dubai’s forward-thinking strategy and architectural innovation.

Up on the observation decks, you’ll have plenty of time to drink in those vistas over the Persian Gulf and take lots of photographs. The decks come equipped with state-of-the-art telescopes that offer close-up views of Dubai’s landmarks. It’s a perfect place to immerse yourself in the panoramic experience, witnessing the city’s vibrant energy and glittering skyline.

Things to Know before you go

  • Book tickets in advance to secure your preferred time slot.

  • The entrance to the observation decks is accessed through Dubai Mall. Only residents and hotel guests can enter Burj Khalifa through the other entrances.

  • Small bags or purses are permitted. Anything larger – including strollers – will need to be checked in at the free bag check and collected after your visit.

  • No pets or food are allowed.

  • There is no strict dress code unless you also have a table booked at Atmosphere, where evening dress is required. However, it’s recommended to dress modestly out of respect for local customs.

  • Floor 148 is less visited than floor 124 and 125 so for a calmer, quieter experience it is worth considering. Floor 148 also offers complimentary refreshments.

  • The lifts travel at 35km/h and take around a minute to reach the observation deck.

  • The Burj Khalifa is fully wheelchair accessible.

 Opening Hours

  • Burj Khalifa opens from 09:00 to 23:00 every day.

  • Dubai Mall, from where the experience is accessed, opens from 10:00 to 22:00 every day.

How to Get There

Burj Khalifa is located in Downtown Dubai, right next to the Dubai Mall.

Address: 1 Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, 0, Downtown Dubai, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Public Transport:

  • METRO: Red line – Burj Khalifa Station

  • BUS: F13 – Dubai Mall Bus Stop

Don’t forget, the only entrance to the observation decks is accessed through the Dubai Mall.

Get ready to visit the Burj Khalifa

What should I really see at the Burj Khalifa?

The whole point of the observation decks is to see the remarkable panoramic views of Dubai and beyond. You should also stop by the multimedia presentation about the Burj Khalifa’s construction and history, located on the lower levels.

What are the best ways to visit the Burj Khalifa?

Skip-the-line tickets mean you won’t have to queue for the lifts. Consider visiting during off-peak hours to avoid crowds. There are a number of different experiences, from the standard At the Top on floors 124 and 125, to Lounge tickets, which give you access to floors 152–154, where there are complimentary treats available while you enjoy the view. To live the high life Dubai-style, you can visit At the Top to take in the views, before heading to Downtown for afternoon tea in a luxury hotel. The best of both worlds.

How much time do I need for visiting the Burj Khalifa?

A typical visit to the observation decks takes approximately one to two hours. However, you can spend more time exploring the various facilities and enjoying the views at your own pace.

What is the best moment of the day to visit the Burj Khalifa?

Either side of sunset is very popular, so make sure you book in advance to secure those timeslots. The Dubai skyline is impressive after dark, too. But if you’re looking for a quieter visit with lower footfall, consider the morning timeslots. The Burj Khalifa is open throughout the year, and during Dubai’s high season for visitors – from October to April – it’s likely to be busier, but because tickets are timed it’ll never be overwhelmed with crowds.

Can I combine my visit to Burj Khalifa with other attractions?

Yes, combined tickets are available with the Dubai Aquarium, located in the Dubai Mall next door, or as part of the Dubai Pass. In terms of location, you could plan an evening visit and watch the light, sound and water show at the fountains at the foot of the Burj Khalifa before or after your visit.
