The site is truly impressive – so much detail remains.'Let your expert your guide transport you back in time, learning about the living past of Ephesus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Admire the Celsus Library, built with double walls to protect its scrolls from the heat. Peek into houses still decorated with frescoes, and nose around the public baths, brothel and shops. Walk down Marble Street to see the Great Theatre, a spectacular 24,000-seater dug into the hillside, which once rang with the cries of gladiators and the sermons of St Paul.Next, we'll visit the House of the Virgin Mary, a Catholic and Muslim shrine. Leyla, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Stratonikeia is quite unusual – as you walk around, you'll see the different eras unfold in front of your eyes – from the ancient Greeks, to Romans, the Ottoman Empire up to more modern-style homes, it's like a studio. A special feature is the restored mosque with glass panels to reveal the original stonework – it's a fascinating place.'The tour begins with a guided visit of Stratonikeia - an ancient city founded in the 3rd century BC by the Seleucid king, Antiochus I, and named after his wife, Stratonice. It was a significant city in the region during the Hellenistic period and served as a centre for trade and commerce. On arrival, you'll be able to try some traditional Turkish tea and gözleme, a savoury Turkish pancake. Wander past grand colonnades, Roman baths and on cobbled paths to see an impressive theatre that could seat 12,000 spectators – it's a glimpse into the city's glorious past. After your guided walk, you'll head to Karnas Winery & Vineyard, not far away. The winery uses traditional Turkish grape varieties and modern production techniques, and you'll sample some of their wines while learning about winemaking in Turkey. You'll also get to try some tasty local snacks alongside the wines.

On arrival at Ephesus, you'll follow marble-paved streets to gaze at mosaics in ancient Roman houses and admire epoch-defining buildings such as the Library of Celsus, the Temple of Hadrian and the Grand Theatre.
