What to expect
Once an important and prosperous city, Lindos is ancient Greece to a tee. Explore this history-steeped seaside village with an optional, interactive Acropolis tour, bringing treasures to life with the Lindos 3D app. ‘I'm particularly passionate about guiding in Lindos, one of the oldest acropolises in Greece. I love strolling through the maze of whitewashed streets, especially stopping by the Captain's House and seeing its beautiful, pebbled mosaic floor,' says Fotini, one of our guides.
As you approach Lindos, there's no mistaking the mountaintop fortress of the Acropolis, perched more than 120 metres above the sea. It crowns a headland whose slopes are covered in trees the whitewashed homes of the village. Don your audio headset and let your local expert take you through narrow, cobbled streets, spotting dinky chapels and gleaming Orthodox churches along the way. The interior of Church of the Holy Virgin is lavishly decorated in frescoes and icons. Along the way, you'll stop off for a drink in the heart of the village, at a family-run business.
Such was the importance of Rhodes and Lindos throughout the centuries, that the Knights of St John erected walls in the 13th century to protect the citadel. If you want, you can choose to enter the archaeological site. It's a small fee payable on the day. If you do go in, make sure to take full advantage of the tablet provided. It's a great way to see how the Acropolis once looked.

Rhodes is one of the most photographed cities in Greece thanks to the world-class heritage bequeathed by the medieval Knights Hospitaller. The Order of St John of Jerusalem occupied Rhodes from 1309 to 1523, transforming the city into a stronghold. Their fortifications will be the focus of your photography masterclass. How will you capture the story of Rhodes through your images? Your visit begins with a theory session where your National Geographic-trained photography guide will share tips on composition, lighting, and storytelling through photography. To add an exciting dimension to your day's photography, your tutor will run a competition to find the best shot of the day. With that motivation, you'll walk around the perimeter of the fortress and through the huge gateway, capturing shots of the medieval elements. As you enter the old walled town of Rhodes – which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988 – more exciting shooting locations will reveal themselves, including the Street of Knights and the Clock Tower. Your guide will offer technical advice, demonstrate the best angles, and point out good places to capture wow-factor photos. Pirates of Rhodes Family-friendly Themed Cruise
Pirate Tim and Calypso the Parrot need your help to find their lost treasure. But first you need to be fully trained in all the skills you need to become a pirate. Eleni, one of our local crew members, says, 'Rhodes was once a hugely important trading post in the Mediterranean region, and pirates were a real threat to this success. The island's governors directed the Rhodes Navy to spend all their time policing the waters nearby in order to protect the ships carrying valuable goods such as salt and olive oil.' You'll join our plucky crew in search of the booty, and along the way everyone will get into the pirate spirit with some help from the pirate team on the boat. There'll be lots of fun activities for everyone to get involved with. For our little pirate crew, there'll be face painting and lots of pirate-themed games to play and for the older pirate crew, there'll be some pirate challenges to join in with.
