What to expect
‘You'll feel at one with nature as you glide down the Martha Brae River on a bamboo raft,' says Tania, one of our expert local guides. At Miss Martha's Herb Garden, you'll learn how to build a bamboo raft before hopping on to one, ready to float downstream. Your very own raftsman will pilot you downriver, so you can sit back and take in the tropical scenery. Along the way, your guide will tell tales of local folklore and introduce you to the importance of wild herbs in traditional Jamaican medicine and cuisine.
After rafting, you'll drive through the historic town of Falmouth – a childhood stomping ground of world's fastest man Usain Bolt – and see St Peter's Anglican Church, one of the oldest churches in Jamaica. Next up is the star of the show. Tania says, ‘This lagoon is one of only four of its kind anywhere in the world. It's like a scene from the movie, Avatar. That's why I find it such a special, magical place.' Arriving at the Luminous Lagoon just after sunset, you'll have time to take a swim in the glowing neon waters.
