What to expect

Discover an impressive collection of applied arts, design, architecture, and contemporary art items in one of the grandest work of architecture on Vienna’s Ringstraße. Book your entrance ticket to the famous MAK Museum, also known as the Museum of Applied Arts.

Originally founded in 1871 as the Imperial Royal Austrian Museum of Art and Industry, the fascinating building by Heinrich von Ferstel houses today one of the most important museums of applied arts in the world. Enjoy the unique combination of past, present and future exploring the spacious exhibition rooms designed by contemporary artists which show selected highlights of the MAK extensive collection.

The Museum's permanent collections and exhibitions, the Design Lab and the temporary exhibitions host precious art and craft work items from the fields of furniture, glass, porcelain, silver, and textiles from the Middle Ages to the present day. Get an encompassing view of applied arts through various epochs, materials, and artistic disciplines ranging from the Wiener Werkstätte to bentwood furniture by Thonet and Viennese Modernism masterpieces including work by Gustav Klimt, Josef Hoffmann, and Otto Wagner.

  • The MAK app for iOS and Android provides a free audio guide available in English and German
  • Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday from 10.00am to 6.00pm. December 24 and 31 from 10.00am to 3.00pm
  • With the Tuesday evening ticket you can visit the museum from 6.00pm to 9.00pm
  • Children (age 0-18) enter for free
