What to expect

Experience the Death Road Tour and the Uyuni Salt Flats on this 3-day trip from La Paz!

Day 1 – Death Road tour – Bus La Paz to Uyuni
After pick-up at your hotel in downtown La Paz, you'll hit the road to reach La Cumbre located at 4.700 m.a.s.l. From there, starts the tour...get ready for a 22 km downhill bike ride (on asphalt road) to the entrance to the national park. This first section will enable you to get used to the bike. The safety van is always behind the group and you'll have stops for water, photos, and bike checks. Once inside the park, you'll ride 10 km on the Death Road, continue to a waterfall splash and after 32 km you'll reach Yolosa. You'll stop in a hotel where showers, a swimming pool, and a buffet lunch await you. Around 5.00 pm you'll go back to La Paz driving through the new road. You'll arrive at the bus office at 8.00 pm to check in for the bus going to Uyuni. You'll enjoy dinner and breakfast served on board.

Day 2 – Uyuni –Train Graveyard – Colchani – Salar de Uyuni – Incahuasi Island – Bus Uyuni to La Paz
Upon arrival in Uyuni city, enjoy some free time to walk around before departure for the Salt Flats at 10.30 am. The first stop is the haunting "Train Graveyard’ where you'll see the first locomotives in Bolivia, and learn about their history. Now corroded from the strong salt winds, this is a great photo setting! Next, you'll visit the small settlement of Colchani where you'll find handicrafts made of salt, and textile art manufactured of llama and alpaca wool. Cruise along the vast white expanse of salt, wade through “Ojos de Agua Salada” and visit a hotel made completely out of salt. After a morning of exploration, lunch will be served near “Isla Incahuasi” (Fish Island). Then you'll have free time to hike to the top of the island to see giant cacti, and rock formations made of petrified coral. Take fun perspective- and proportion-distorted photos set on the blinding white surface of the salt flats! Top off your day with a beautiful sunset over the salt flats and a glass of wine. You'll be back in Uyuni by 7.00 pm and embark at 8.30 pm to La Paz.

Day 3 – Bus to La Paz
You'll arrive at 6.30 am in La Paz where the tour ends.

During the rainy season (January to March), it is not possible to access Incahuasi Island. However, there is the possibility of visiting the island if on the day of your tour it does not rain. You also may sleep in a different location due to road access.
