What to expect

Get ready for a jam-packed day of temples, tombs and monuments at Luxor that’ll sweep you through thousands of years of history. Together with a guide, you’ll travel from Marsa Alam to Luxor’s top sights including Karnak Temple, the Valley of the Kings and Medinat Habu Temple. Esi, one of our local guides, says, ‘Luxor was once known as Thebes, the capital of Ancient Egypt during the New Kingdom and it’s home to some of the most iconic ancient Egyptian monuments. It’s here that you’ll get a glimpse into Egyptian architecture and civilization at its best.’

Kick start your adventure across the Red Sea Mountains – with a quick breakfast stop – to delve into the first sight of the day, Karnak Temple. This impressive archaeological site is an open book of Ancient Egyptian history full to the brim with sphinxes, pylons and intricate hieroglyphs. Look out for the two obelisks, ‘they represent the sun god, Ra, and are normally placed at the entrances of temples’, adds Esi. After lunch, you’ll whizz across the Nile by motorboat to the Valley of the Kings – the royal burial ground for pharaohs.

This UNESCO site is home to 63 tombs, including the tomb of Tutankhamun – and you’ll get to choose three to step dive into. Built into desert landscapes, these tombs provide the perfect backdrop for those Insta-worthy pics. Next up, you’ll travel through history to visit the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, Mortuary Temple of Ramesses III at Medinet Habu and the Colossi of Memnon statues. As the tour comes to an end, don’t miss out on a photo op of these giant two statues. They’ll blow your mind.
