What to expect

Spend a lovely day discovering the wineries and the amazing history of the picturesque villages surrounding Avignon: Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas and Séguret. Enjoy a tasting of AOC (Appellation d’Origine Controlée) red wines produced here, which are the pinnacle of viticulture heritage in the southern Rhône Valley.

The AOC Châteauneuf-du-Pape is the flagship wine of the area and one of the greatest French wines. Its origin dates back to the 14th century when Pope John XXII ordered the cultivation of the famous vineyard near his castle in Châteauneuf. After a visit to the wine museum which displays a remarkable collection of 16th-century tools used in winemaking, you’ll visit a few wineries and taste several wines.

Afterward, you’ll enjoy some Côtes du Rhône AOC wine in Gigondas, whose vineyard was the first to obtain the appellation Cru des Côtes du Rhône in 1971. Nestled at the foot of the Montmirail mountain chain, Gigondas is a beautiful village characterized by houses with beautiful round tiles and old facades in the purest Provençal style.

The last stop of this amazing wine tasting tour will be Séguret, one of the most beautiful villages in France, whose dominant position on a hill offers magnificent views of the surrounding landscape. Enjoy a pleasant stroll along the sloping, cobblestone streets called "calades" and relax in the shade of the old walls in a timeless atmosphere.
