What to expect

Drive out of the city and explore the route and the surrounding area from Berlin-Wannsee to Potsdam on a guided bike tour!

One of the most beautiful Berlin bike tours leads from Berlin to its graceful little sister Potsdam. From the barren Prussian garrison town of the soldier king, the master builders and garden designers of his successors created a total work of art consisting of castles, pavilions and churches, which are connected to each other via lines of sight through parks and water. "That whole Eyland must become a paradise", said Johann Moritz von Nassau-Siegen to his friend, the Great Elector of Brandenburg, as early as the 17th century. Two centuries later it has become what is today a Unesco World Heritage Site and attracts millions of tourists. The “Prussian Arcadia” can best be experienced with all your senses when you cross it by bike.

From the Wannsee S-Bahn station, cross the bridge with a view of sailing boats and the lido to the right into the street Am Großen Wannsee, past villas and yacht clubs. In this idyllic street, too, you encounter the heights and depths of German history. On the one hand in the form of the villa of the painter Max Liebermann and on the other hand only a few meters further on the scene of the Wannsee Conference, where in January 1942 the organizational implementation of the murder of European Jews was discussed and decided.

The path now leads past the Heckeshorn and along the banks of the Havel. You pass the Pfaueninsel, the Moorlake excursion restaurant and the Sacrow Church of the Savior on the other side of the Havel and finally Glienicke Castle with its “Great Curiosity” pavilion. Over the bridge of the unit, in the middle of which the border once ran, you get over to Potsdam and turn into the new garden. Passing the Cecilienhof Palace you drive to the dairy, where you can take a well-deserved break, for example.

Later on, you will continue through the suburb of Nauen to Potsdam's historic old town: to the Brandenburg Gate, through the pedestrian zone of the same name to the Dutch Quarter, Bassinplatz and the rebuilt Old Market. (Especially sporty people can make a detour to the Pfingstberg and the wonderful Belvedere here.)

Back to Berlin (or Berlin-Wannsee) take the S-Bahn or regional train from Potsdam Central Station.
