What to expect

Frankfurt is the home to Germany’s only high-rise skyline. The highest building, Commerzbank Tower, contrasts with the city’s 95 meters-high medieval landmark, the belfry of the Gothic Imperial Cathedral. The German capital of finance is well known for its famous sausage, the Frankfurter, and for the traditional beverage, apple cider. Get up on Eiserner Steg, the 19th-century iron footbridge over the river Main, and view the high-rise skyline and the museum embankment of Frankfurt. In the pedestrian area of the Old Town, three of the most important historic sites lie within a 10 minutes walking distance: the medieval Town Hall "Römer“ on the picturesque "Römerberg“-Square, the Kaiserdom (Imperial Cathedral) and Paulskirche (St. Paul’s Church), the cradle of German democracy. Paulskirche was where Germany’s first national assembly convened in 1848.

Pass the towering headquarters of many global banking players, such as Commerzbank Tower built by world-famous British architect Sir Norman Foster. Discover the Goethehaus, where the German classical literature genius Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was born, and learn about his early life and times in Frankfurt during the 18th century. You will get a glimpse of Frankfurt’s history and its development from a medieval trade center and coronation place to an international capital of finance and business.
