Imbros Gorge is the second most popular gorge of Crete after Samaria. It is a 11km long canyon located near Chora Sfakion in southern Crete. It is a picturesque gorge of unique beauty, full of wildness. It runs parallel to its “big sister”, the Samaria Gorge and its narrowest part is 1.60m.
The picturesque scenery and its wilderness in combination with the low crossing difficulty make the descent of Imbros ideal for families with children too. The total hike of the gorge is 9km and the course lasts about 2.5 hours. Imbros Gorge mule trail was the only connection between Chania and Chora Sfakion before the road was built. The remains of this trail can still be seen today.
After a short rest in the village of Komitades you will continue to the southern coast of Crete, where the untamed landscape flows into the Libyan Sea. The sandy beach with the crystal-clear blue waters is suitable for relaxation after hiking. A few coffee shops and taverns are also located close to the beach if you feel like visiting them.
