What to expect

The island of Divar is small enough to explore on foot, but even better to see by e-bike. Think paddy fields crisscrossed by rickety lanes, peeling colonial churches and brightly coloured temples. The ancient forts and churches you see are reminders of the island's historical prominence.'

The name Divar translates as ‘place of the Gods' – and there's certainly something heavenly about it. Arriving by ferry from Old Goa, you'll grab your e-bike and follow your guide through the paddy fields and vibrant countryside of the island. Divar is known for its well-preserved Portuguese-style houses. These picturesque buildings showcase the architectural influence of the Portuguese colonial era, with their colourful facades, ornate balconies, and tiled roofs.

Passing crumbling colonial churches, sleepy single-lane roads and deserted beaches, it feels like a land that time forgot. Filled in on fascinating facts and the history of the area, you'll break for high tea at a boutique hotel, then take a leisurely cycle back to port for your return ferry. The ferry itself is all part of the experience, crossing the Mandovi River where you might catch a glimpse of traditional Goan riverside life.
