The legendary figure of Julius Caesar has always been the subject of curiosity and intrigue, with a legacy stretching through the centuries - his deeds changed the history of Rome forever. Drawing on National Geographic’s numerous studies and articles on the famous ruler, this tour highlights not only the importance of his war exploits, but also the social and political reforms he initiated.
The tour will follow an itinerary that links Caesar’s life and deeds, crossing the city to encounter symbolic places from his history and his empire, but will also pass by significant locations of current power. You will see first-hand the parallels between Roman history and the capital city of today. In the company of a specialist Roman history guide, you’ll get important insights into monuments such as the Roman Forum as well as lesser-known sites such as the Temple of Pompey, Theatre of Marcellus and Porticus Octaviae.
The tour begins on the site of the Trajan Forum learning about Caesar’s rise as a military leader and politician. After visiting the Forums, the tour will continue to Largo di Torre Argentina where, at 11.00 in the morning on March 15th in 44 BC - the famous Ides of March - Julius Caesar was assassinated on his way to the Senate. The assassination was masterminded by about 60 senators who resented Caesar's popularity and arrogance. Your lunch location is a very special place: an underground restaurant where the ruins of the location where Caesar was assassinated are visible.
