What to expect
On this exclusive private tour, you'll combine Madeiran wine and countryside with some thrilling off-road adventures. You'll journey along rugged mountain roads to Cabo Girão and the São Vicente valley, then stop for a wine tasting session at Quinta do Barbusano vineyard. Tiago, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘The scenery is the star of the show. You'll get a close-up view of Madeira's twisting valleys and sawtooth mountains as you head along panoramic trails by 4x4. You finish on a high – literally – with the winery visit at the end of the tour.'
First up is the drive towards the immense wall of Cabo Girão, one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe. Soak up some impressive views over the ocean waves breaking 580 metres below, then continue off-roading along quiet side roads and tracks that snake their way through São Vicente valley. Dominated by the hilltop chapel of Nossa Senhora de Fátima, the whole valley is a postcard brought to life. Red-roofed farms and villages dot the lower slopes which rise to verdant peaks all around.
You'll stop off at the Lime Route Museum Centre, where there are two limestone quarries and a lime kiln to explore. Finally, it's on to Quinta do Barbusano, a key local winery. You'll be treated to a tour of the hilly vineyards with an oenologist followed by a tasting of one rosé, two white and two red wines, and some nibbles. Drinking in the glorious views while you try the various wines is a great finale to your adventure.

Make memories with an experience that the world will thank you for.'During the months of October to April, your first stop is at Funchal Ecological Park, where a sustainable activity will take place, contributing to the conservation of the endemic flora of the Island and the eradication of invasive species. From May to September a visit to a historic water mill or an organic farm will be on offer instead. Next, we'll visit the towering Pico do Areeiro. Northwest Madeira 4x4 Tour with Laurisilva Forest and Lunch

Then it's on to Fanal, where some of the oldest Laurel trees on the island grow. Ruben says, ‘Madeira's laurel forests are the largest surviving area of primary laurisilva woods anywhere. Some of the trees are thought to be around 800 years old, and the ecosystem is largely intact. These forests host around 100 endemic species, and they are protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.'Rumble past typical ‘poios' terraced farmland en route to Seixal beach for a swim. After this, we'll head to Chão da Ribeira to savour a tasty local lunch. Chef Sérgio will show you how to make the classic grilled beef skewer, known in Portuguese as ‘espetada', while you enjoy a glass of Madeira Wine as an apéritif. There's also a vegan burger option. To wrap up your tour, we'll visit São Vicente to meet an organic honey producer. Here, you'll learn all about honey production, and you'll try your hand at making Madeira's traditional drink, poncha.
