What to expect
Bananas from the Canary Islands are prized all over Spain – and now you can visit a plantation here in Tenerife and taste the real thing. At Finca Las Margaritas in Arona, you'll learn all about their cultivation, the different varieties and get to try derived products, too. The kids will love it.
The self-guided tour allows you to poke around on your own. Walk over large leaves and among banana trees with vast bunches of more than 100 fruit. This family-owned plantation mainly grows bananas – the gran enana and gruesa palmera varieties – but you might also spot papaya, avocado, mango and other fruit trees. There are signs with lots of information.
At the end of the tour, there's a chance to taste bananas as well as banana wine, banana liqueur and more in the plantation's shop. This Finca Las Margaritas – Banana Experience has a 97% positive rating on TripAdvisor for a reason – it's a fabulous place to visit.
