What to expect

This is your chance to find out why Windsor Castle is the Queen’s favourite weekend residence and explore the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world! You can peek inside the lavish State Apartments and see the impressive artwork that hangs on its walls (Including priceless pieces by celebrated painters, Rembrandt and Leondardo Da Vinci). You'll also get to see Queen Mary's Dolls' House which is a beautiful model home that has electricity, running water and working lits. It's every young Queen's dream!

Then, it's time to explore St. George's Chapel - the resting place for many past monarchs, including Henry VIII and his favourite wife Jane Seymour, Queen Mary, and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. See the memorials and spend some quiet time wandering around this traditional chapel.

Important to know

Know in advance:

  • Please arrive at the meeting point 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time
  • Audio guides are available in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish
  • Due to heightened security, visitors will not be allowed to take any form of liquid into Windsor Castle
  • As a working royal palace, the Castle is used frequently by The Queen for State ceremonies and official entertaining. Closures may occasionally occur at short notice
  • When the State Apartments are closed the Precincts, Queen Mary’s dolls’ house and the Drawings Gallery will remain open
  • This tour is unescorted and you will spend approximately 2 hours in Windsor Castle
  • This tour ends at between 6.00pm and 6:30pm in Victoria or Kensington (Gloucester Road)
  • St. George’s Chapel is closed to visitors on Sundays as services are held throughout the day
  • During peak periods, additional vehicles without Wi-Fi may be used
  • On Sunday, 16 June 2024 the State Apartments are closed
