The Museum was established to house the extensive collection of Hawaiian objects and royal family heirlooms. It now houses and cares for over 25 million historical, cultural, and natural treasures, making it the largest museum in the world devoted to Native Hawaiian and Pacific history and culture and each item has its own, special story to tell.

Enter the Hawaiian Hall that will take you on a journey through the different realms of Hawai‘i or the Pacific Hall where you can explore Moananuiākea. Important to know

  • The museum is open from 9am. All visitors once checked in, are welcome to stay until 5 p.m
  • Please note to book the military and local resident entrance ticket, a valid Hawaii State ID, Hawaii driver’s license, or active military identification is required. Bishop Museum reserves the right to require customers to present collateral documentation establishing residency
  • All backpacks over 20 pounds in weight and travel luggage are restricted from entering the exhibit spaces. These items may be checked upon arrival at the Admissions Desk at a fee
  • Daytime parking is available at a fee. Parking payment kiosks are located in front of the main Museum entrance as well as in the upper parking lot. Kiosks accept credit cards only. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., parking fees can be paid by cash in Shop Pacifica. Parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Vehicles with a Disability Parking Placard displayed are not required to pay any parking lot fees

  • Only Service dogs are permitted on the premises but must be announced through the Admissions Desk before being escorted onto museum campus, it is recommended to keep them on a leash

  • This museum is wheelchair accessible, you can borrow a manual wheelchair free of charge at the Admissions Desk in Shop Pacifica on a first-come, first-served basis. To borrow one, visitors are asked to leave their photo ID for the duration of their visit

  • Any interpreter accompanying and assisting a visitor who is deaf, hearing-impaired, blind, partially sighted, or required to aide a person with specific learning disabilities is admitted free of charge

  • Food served in the Café by Highway Inn restaurant is not prepared in an allergen-free kitchen. All guests—especially those with dietary sensitivities or food allergies—are welcome to bring outside food to the Bishop Museum as long as food is not taken out or consumed in the exhibit spaces
  • Sign-language interpretation for the Planetarium, lava-melt demonstration, exhibit tours, and Museum visits up to two hours will be made available with two weeks’ advance notice
