One of Bulgaria's most culturally enriching destinations, Nessebar is known as the ‘Pearl of the Black Sea'. Crammed onto a lozenge-shaped peninsula, the old town is only slightly larger than the Vatican City yet has many more churches. Penka, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Nessebar is a living museum. Buildings and monuments dating back to the 5th century are still in use today. The town's strategic location means Nessebar has always been a hub for trade, so it makes sense that it was here, over 2,500 years ago, that money was invented and first used for commerce.'
You'll begin with a guided walking tour of the old town. Each step you take in the narrow, cobbled streets is a step back in time. As you wander through alleys fringed by old wooden homes, you'll stumble upon ancient Byzantine churches or ruins from classical antiquity. Such is the wealth of history on this narrow peninsula that it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There is evidence here which reflects the architectural progress of the whole Balkan and east Mediterranean regions.
Follow your guide through the characterful old town to see some of the historic churches, some from as far back as far as Byzantine times. You'll visit the interior of the richly decorated St Stephen's Church and admire the walls festooned with frescos. If you take the lunch option, you'll then head to a restaurant for a three-course feast. There's also free time to explore on your own.

Dimitar, one of our expert local guides, says, 'You'll visit Kozichino village, the perfect place to experience the authentic Bulgarian rural way of life. Kozichino is renowned for its efforts to preserve old crafts, customs, and the traditional Bulgarian architecture of the region.'As you rumble through the Bulgarian landscapes, there will be a number of stops. Imagine the excitement as kids turn into treasure hunters in an ancient oak forest, guided by GPS, while adults test their aim with bow and air rifle. The journey takes a scenic turn at 'Tabite,' offering a panoramic view that screams photo op. Come lunchtime, we'll swing by the timeless village of Kozichino for a cultural feast at an ethnographic complex.Here, in a vibrant courtyard, get a slice of village life, explore a museum packed with local treasures, and snap photos in traditional attire. The owner whips up his signature bio lemonade, served alongside a hearty meal of cabbage salad, grilled kebabs, and homemade bread, with a beer and lemonade included. But wait, there's more - the 'Safari' orchestra sets the soundtrack to your meal, followed by an off-road adventure to Gyulovtsa, where a brandy tasting awaits.

Bulgarian Heritage Tour with Byala, Boat Trip and Liqueur Tasting
This tour is a great way to get to know the best of Bulgarian culture and heritage. With a visit to ancient Byala, a riverboat trip and an afternoon of folklore and fun with the grannies of Solnik village, you'll experience a lot during your day out. Ivan, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Solnik is a typical mountain village, but Granny Radka's house is anything but typical – it's like a mini-museum. She has displays of traditional costumes and textiles all over the walls, most of which were made by Granny Radka herself.'Kick off in the seaside town of Byala, on Cape St Atanas. Discover its rich history dating back to the Byzantine era as you walk through the area. You'll see ancient pottery making equipment, a partially restored winery and the basilica. Soaking up the expansive sea view from the top of the cliffs is all part of the Byala experience. Next, we will head to Kamchiya for a 25-minute boat trip along the river to enjoy the beauty of the Bulgarian countryside.Your final stop will be at the quaint village of Solnik, where we'll visit Granny Radka's house. You'll be invited to take a look at the display of typical clothes, try some local rose liqueur and tuck into a tasty lunch of dishes from the region, freshly prepared with locally sourced ingredients. Then you'll be immersed in Bulgarian folklore when you watch a song and dance performance by the village elders dressed in the traditional costume.

You'll see all the city's top attractions and visit the multi-domed Dormition of the Mother of God Cathedral as well as enjoy some free time to browse the shops in the Delta Planet Mall. We'll then drive northwards to Varna, with a photo stop at Galata on the Black Sea coast. Then it's on to the Delta Planet Mall, where you have free time to browse a large variety of shops in this modern shopping centre.You'll head then to the old town, and after exploring the Dormition of the Mother of God Cathedral, and a short sightseeing bus tour, you'll enjoy some free time to discover the city for yourself.

Sozopol Guided Tour by Fast Ferry from Obzor
A treasure trove of ancient towns, historic harbours and natural scenery, Bulgaria's Black Sea coast is well worth exploring. For culture, shopping and gastronomy, this trip to Sozopol by fast ferry is just the ticket. Departing from Obzor, you'll transfer to Nessebar from where the ferry whisks you to explore ancient Sozopol. After an hour's cruise on the high-speed passenger catamaran Seacat One you'll be docking in Sozopol. On the ferry there is a bar serving coffee, tea, soft drinks and beer, at your own expense.Arriving in Sozopol, you'll have time for a guided tour and a tasting of regional Bulgarian wines before heading for an optional, traditional lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, make the most of the free time to explore at your own pace and perhaps browse the shops and markets. Return from Sozopol to Nessebar by fast ferry in the late afternoon, and continue to Obzor by coach.
