What to expect

Enjoy two local activities: snowshoeing trough the Taïga forest and ice fishing on a frozen lake. During this must-do adventure, you will experience Lappish nature and life in the Arctic!

After pick-up up you receive proper winter clothing and boots (it can be as cold as -30C) and your guide will then drive you to the starting point of your trip. Before heading into the forests, you will receive some instructions on how to use the snowshoes and walk on snow. As you snowshoe through the quiet snowy landscapes you can feel the harmony of Lapland nature that surrounds you.

You end up in an immense open area made of ice and snow. It is time to find a promising spot on the lake and try to catch your lunch! Your guide will help you drill your own hole in the ice, and teach you the basic techniques on how to ice-fish. Then, it is just a matter of time and patience before you can feel the first bites. This is just the perfect moment to appreciate the silence that reigns over the lake.

While you are fishing, your guide will chop wood and prepare a fire on the shores to prepare some typical Finnish snacks and hot drinks. If you manage to catch a fish (of a decent size), your guide will happily prepare it, cook it straight over the fire and add it to the menu of the day! If the fish are undersized, we will quickly return them to the ice without unnecessarily harming them.

After this ice-fishing experience, it will be time to put back on the snowshoes and head back to Rovaniemi.

Please dress according to the weather with warm inner layers as it may be very cold on the lake
